OUT OF COURT SETTLEMENT FOLLOWS TRAGEDY FOR LAPLAND FAMILY

One of Tom’s most tragic cases involved the death of a young man from Lapland who was killed in a car accident in Wollongong, Australia, and the subsequent death by suicide of his father who became profoundly depressed on hearing news of the tragedy. Lapland is 1000 klm north of Stockholm, Sweden and Tom visited the family there to prepare for the case. Tom made claims for the deaths of both father and son. The case could have been difficult to win if it had been heard in Australia. Tom’s willingness to visit Lapland to assist the grieving mother and wife and to then arrange for a hearing in Sweden persuaded the Australian insurers the insurers decision to make an excellent out of court settlement.
